About Salvador Deli Yachting
Approach
Jan believes that most boats can be sold within a reasonable amount of time as long as they are placed in the right market, advertised through the right medium, advertised honestly and priced correctly.
Average depreciation of a boat is somewhere in between 10% and 15% per year and running costs (including harbour fees) add on average another 10% a year, which makes it very expensive for a boat owner if he cannot sell his boat within a reasonable amount of time. Every year that passes without selling could add up to 25% extra costs to the owner.
Research
Before placing a boat on the market Jan and Christine do some extensive research on the pricing environment for that boat. They do not only look at offers of similar boats of similar age, but also look at evidence on prices paid for similar boats in the past.
As a member of Yachtworld they have access to an unique database of boats that actually have been sold. All this information is put together into a spreadsheet and a graph that gives a quick overview of the pricing environment and makes it easier for the boat owner to set a price at which the boat will be offered in the market.
This pricing environment needs to be looked at at a regular basis and discussed with the client.
